My priorities for Miramichi

Miramichi has strong foundations — but we are at a point where how we move forward really matters.

We are facing real challenges in public safety, coordination, and long-term planning, and continuing with the same approach will not deliver different results.

My focus as mayor will be clear: strengthen public safety, grow our local economy, and ensure our city is planning responsibly for the future — with leadership that is accountable and focused on results.

Strong communities are not built by default — they are built through clear direction, coordination, and the willingness to make decisions when it matters.

By working with residents, businesses, and community partners, we can move Miramichi forward with focus, purpose, and real progress.

Public safety in Miramichi depends on how well our systems work together.

Right now, we are seeing increasing challenges related to addiction, mental health, and housing. The people working on the front lines are committed and doing important work — but the overall response is too fragmented.

When services are not aligned, outcomes suffer. And that affects both community safety and the support available to vulnerable residents.

That needs to change.

As mayor, I will focus on building a more coordinated approach that brings together emergency services, healthcare providers, and community organizations with clear direction and shared accountability.

This includes:

• Strengthening coordination between police, emergency services, healthcare providers, and community organizations
• Advocating for provincial and federal resources to expand addiction, mental health, and housing supports
• Improving emergency preparedness and crisis response through better communication and planning
• Supporting proactive community safety initiatives that address root causes while protecting neighbourhoods
• Ensuring first responders have the resources and support they need to do their jobs effectively

Public safety requires both accountability and compassion — and leadership that ensures systems are working together, not in silos.

Safe & Supported Communities

The closure of the Centennial Bridge has put significant pressure on our city.

Traffic, emergency response times, daily commutes, and the movement of goods and services are all being affected. This is not just an inconvenience — it impacts how our city functions.

The need for a bypass has been known for years, yet it has continued to be delayed.

We are now feeling the consequences of that.

Miramichi needs strong, consistent advocacy with the provincial government to move this project forward.

As mayor, I will:

• Advocate clearly and consistently for the advancement of the bypass
• Work with provincial partners to ensure Miramichi’s infrastructure needs are prioritized
• Ensure the impacts of the bridge closure are clearly communicated and addressed
• Push for timelines, accountability, and follow-through on infrastructure commitments

This is not a new issue — but it is one that now requires immediate and focused leadership.

Centennial Bridge & Bypass Advocacy

Miramichi has real opportunities for economic growth — but growth doesn’t happen without direction.

Right now, we are not fully leveraging the assets we already have. Supporting small businesses, strengthening our downtowns, and attracting investment requires a more focused and coordinated approach.

Economic growth needs to be intentional.

As mayor, I will focus on:

• Supporting local entrepreneurs and small businesses with practical, business-focused support
• Strengthening our downtown cores as active, vibrant centres of commerce
• Expanding tourism and events that bring sustained economic activity into our community
• Working with regional partners to attract investment and create long-term opportunities
• Positioning Miramichi as a place where businesses can start, grow, and succeed

Wellness Centre as an Economic Driver

One of the most important opportunities in front of us is the new Arbec Wellness Centre.

This is a major investment in our city — but without a clear strategy, it risks being underutilize.

We need a plan that turns this facility into an economic driver.

That means actively recruiting events, supporting surrounding businesses, and ensuring it becomes a hub of activity that generates real economic impact — not just a standalone facility.

This is an opportunity — but only if we approach it with clear direction and follow-through.

Economic Growth & Opportunity

Miramichi’s growth needs to be managed with clear planning and long-term thinking.

Right now, we are seeing increasing pressure on housing, infrastructure, and how development is taking shape across the city. Without a more coordinated and forward-looking approach, we risk falling behind — or making decisions today that create challenges down the road.

Planning needs to be deliberate.

As mayor, I will focus on:

• Maintaining and improving the roads, utilities, and infrastructure our city depends on
• Supporting responsible housing development that reflects the needs of our growing community
• Strengthening long-term planning for infrastructure, neighbourhood development, and public services
• Encouraging development that builds on and strengthens existing neighbourhoods
• Advocating for provincial and federal infrastructure investment to support sustainable growth

Growth should not happen by default — it should be guided by clear planning that ensures our city develops in a way that is strong, balanced, and built to last.

Infrastructure & Smart Planning

Miramichi is a large and growing city — but not every area is equally represented.

Communities like Douglastown have experienced significant change and growth without consistent representation at the council table. That creates imbalance, and over time, it affects how decisions are made across the city.

That needs to be addressed.

I support moving toward a hybrid system of council representation — one that includes both ward councillors representing geographic communities and councillors elected at-large to represent the city as a whole.

This approach would help ensure that growing neighbourhoods have a clear voice, while maintaining strong city-wide leadership and perspective.

Good governance means ensuring every part of our city is represented fairly — and that every voice is part of how decisions are made.

The Next Chapter for Miramichi

I’m running for mayor because I believe deeply in this community and its future.

Miramichi has incredible potential, and with the right leadership, we can build a safer, stronger, and more opportunity-driven community.

Together, we can write the next chapter of Miramichi.
