Building a Better Quality of Life in Miramichi
There is something special about Miramichi that is difficult to explain to people who have never experienced it.
It is in the river at sunset. The sound of boats moving through the water in the summer. Kids running through parks and playgrounds. Walking trails filled with families, cyclists, and seniors out enjoying the evening air. Downtown streets alive with music, conversation, patios, festivals, and people reconnecting with one another.
It is the feeling of belonging to a place that still feels real.
Sometimes we forget what we have here because we live in it every day.
The truth is, we are living in a place people travel across the world to experience. World-class fishing. Incredible natural beauty. Rivers, trails, waterfronts, culture, food, recreation, history, and some of the most genuine people anywhere.
Miramichi already has the foundation of a destination community.
But more importantly, it has the foundation of a connected community.
The future of our city is not only measured by infrastructure projects or economic reports. It is measured by whether people feel connected to where they live. Whether neighbourhoods feel alive. Whether downtowns feel welcoming. Whether families can picture building their future here. Whether seniors feel included and connected instead of isolated. Whether young people feel like there is energy, opportunity, and life in this city.
Community pride is built in everyday moments.
In seeing families downtown again. In public spaces becoming gathering places instead of empty infrastructure. In trails that connect parts of the city both physically and emotionally. In children growing up with memories tied to parks, festivals, sports, and community spaces. In neighbourhoods feeling seen, supported, and connected to the larger story of Miramichi. This is why I speak so often about connection.
For generations, the divide between different parts of our city has shaped conversations, identities, and sometimes even how we see one another. And the next chapter of Miramichi will not be built around division. It has to be built around belonging.
It means recognizing that every neighbourhood deserves to feel connected to the future of this city. Every community deserves to feel seen, valued, and part of where we are heading together. I believe our parks, trails, waterfronts, downtowns, festivals, recreation spaces, and public gathering places have the power to bring people together again, not through slogans, but through shared experiences that strengthen connection, belonging, and pride in the place we call home.
Through creating a city that feels alive.
Over the last several years, I have worked alongside volunteers, organizations, businesses, festivals, and community groups to help create that energy in our downtown and public spaces. I have seen firsthand what happens when people begin reconnecting with their community. Momentum builds. Pride grows. Businesses benefit. Families participate. People begin believing in the city again.
That vision of Miramichi will never leave me.
I believe we can become a more connected, vibrant, welcoming, and forward-looking city without losing the identity and authenticity that make this place special in the first place.
We do not need to become somewhere else to succeed.
We simply need to believe in what we already are and have the leadership willing to bring that vision together with purpose and momentum.
Because at the end of the day, people do not only want a city that functions.
They want a city that feels like home.
